Charity of the Year

The airport receives a great many requests for fund raising donations and sponsorship. Whilst these causes may be very worthy of support, it is not possible to help all of them so the management has therefore adopted a policy of adopting one Airport Charity of the Year.

Exeter International Airport is able to offer the Charity of the Year the opportunity to place coin collection 'tins' at various locations and it is hoped that the travelling public will give generously when passing through the airport.  Members of staff are also encouraged to support the charity with fundraising activities.

For further details see the Adopted Charities page.

Chaplaincy & Faith

The Exeter International Airport Chaplaincy Team consists of ordained and non-ordained members of the Christian church who represent the Christian Churches of the area but do not set out to be advocates of any one denomination.

The Chaplaincy Team respect other faiths and the freedom and integrity of people in following them. They can make links with leaders of other faiths and with all parts of the Christian Church. Chaplains visit sites around the Airport on a regular basis and seek to develop relationships of mutual confidence with passengers and people at all levels of employment.

Churches Together in Devon is a grouping of all the major churches of the immediate region.  They sponsor the chaplaincy and individually the chaplains come from several different denominations which are members of Churches Together in Devon.

The Chaplaincy Team have links with other airport chaplaincies throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland, and around the world through the International Association of Civil Aviation Chaplains.

The Chaplaincy seeks to reflect spiritual and ethical values in human life on the airport, offering a Christian-based ministry to employees, passengers and visitors - be they of any faith or none. We aim to serve the needs and interests of those employed at the Airport and those who travel through, visiting the airport on a regular basis and so becoming available to all employees as we move around the site. We shall be available to passengers as opportunity allows.

Mission Statement:
To identify, understand, and share in the issues affecting airport employees, aircrew, and passengers, and to reveal God's presence in those situations through the Chaplaincy presence.

Aims of the Chaplaincy:

  • To understand the work people do and some of the opportunities and issues that arise in work;
  • To understand the nature of the community that grows up around a place of work and the kind of society to which it contributes;
  • To respond to those in the light of Christian faith;
  • To be available to meet the needs of passengers;
  • To be available to individuals and groups throughout the Airport;
  • To contribute to ensuring that the Airport has a positive work environment;
  • To encourage local churches to take a lively interest in the world of work and in the activities of the Airport in particular.

The Chaplain seeks:

  • To be visible - a friendly, well known face at the Airport, through personal workplace visiting, meeting with managers, attending representatives meetings as invited, and through other contacts - and to be proactive in discerning need.
  • To be available to any Airport employee for work-related or personal needs; to listen, and to offer independent, confidential support and encouragement - showing concern and interest towards all.
  • To walk the terminal building regularly, enabling a response to the needs of passengers and those who work there.
  • To communicate with staff in the companies on site, and to enhance a sense of community at the Airport
  • To act through leading the Chaplaincy/Local Clergy joint Accident Team (if there is one) in the event of a major aircraft or Airport incident, and to share, where possible, in the work of the Airport's Emergency Planning Group.
  • To encourage and support any groups of Christian employees which meet on the Airport for prayer, study and discussion.
  • To inform and challenge the churches regarding faith and work links, and also to seek prayer support for the Airport Chaplaincy ministry carried out on their behalf.
  • To learn from, and share in, the wider work of the churches' industrial mission.
