St Marys outside of the two main areas is a beautiful and naturally unspoilt island. You can hire a bicycle and go exploring some of the countryside and find Harrys Walls which are the remains of an unfinished castle where construction began in 1551 as a defence from attack by the French but it was never completed as the site chosen was unsuitable.
Discover the Giants Castle which is an iron age defensive location placed on a cliff.
Why not try a round of golf in the club which was founded in 1904 and is open to visitors and situated very near Porthloo beach, or just visit the beach itself.
A little further North is Watermill Cove which is an area of outstanding beauty. In the Cove the traveller will find the remains of an old quay and there is still a slipway which is used for smaller boats.
