Exeter Airport offers flights to Dalaman on Turkey’s southwestern coast.
Dalaman has mild winters with the average low temperature starting at 5ºC and reaching average highs during the summer of 34ºC. Sometimes during the summer months, the temperature will reach in the 40’sºC and with relatively low humidity during the summer the destination is perfect for sun soaking and relaxing. The water temperature can reach an average high during the summer months of 29ºC.
Dalaman is situated just a stone’s throw from the sea with views of the mountains and set in a rich fertile area where citrus fruits are grown and make for lovely scenery.
Dalaman has a wonderful mistake, in 1905 the then Khedive (Viceroy) of Egypt Abbas Hilmi Pasha decided he would build a plantation as a residence in Dalaman and at the same time build a Railway station in Alexandria but due to a mix the materials for the station ended up in Dalaman and the plantation ended in Alexandria. As the cost was too much to ship back the Khedive of Egypt had the station built in Dalaman with a couple of Kilometres of track leading nowhere, this building is now used as the headquarters of the state farm.
Near to Dalaman are two beautiful beaches. One at Sarsala Koyu which is in a nature park but has very good amenities and the traveller can also go on a 12-island private boat tour. The other beach is at a village called Sarigerme. This beach is kept clean from rubbish and is quite a popular destination.
At the beach, you can enjoy some water sports entertainment and can go scuba diving, paragliding and hire jet skis. There is a small café at this beach. There are also several sighting tours that can be booked here and all receive very positive reviews from travellers who have been on them.
