    Exeter Airport offers daily flights to Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, throughout the year.

    Edinburgh offers a very mild climate the whole year with average lows in the coldest winter month being around 2ºC and the average highs during the warmest summer month being around 19ºC however the temperature can reach as high as very low 30’sºC during the summer.

    As the Capital of Scotland, Edinburgh is renowned for its history and culture. The city’s most prominent attraction is 900-year-old Edinburgh Castle, which is open all year round.  Sitting atop an old volcanic rock, now known as Castle Rock, the Castle overlooks the main thoroughfare and well-known shopping destination of Princes Street.

    The Castle is host to the annual Edinburgh Military Tattoo during the world’s largest performing arts festival, the Edinburgh Fringe which attracts travellers and performers from across the globe.

    Another tradition is Edinburgh’s Hogmanay which is the Capital’s new year celebration.  It is a ticketed event that includes a host of activities.

    You’ll never be stuck for things to do in Edinburgh and there’s lots that can be enjoyed for free. If you enjoy art and history, then why not visit one of the city’s many art galleries or museums. The city’s National Museum of Scotland is great for families. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is located just minutes from the city centre and is the perfect spot to enjoy green space and spectacular gardens with a picnic. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, why not scale the heights of Arthur’s Seat which sits 251m above sea level and is part of the 640 acre Royal Holyrood Park adjacent to Holyrood Palace, the Queen’s Scottish residence.

    Shopping for souvenirs and general high street brands can be enjoyed throughout Edinburgh City Centre. Elite brands are located on Multrees Walk, while Edinburgh’s newest shopping destination, St James Quarter offers an array of clothing, toy stores and eateries.

    Edinburgh is also the perfect starting spot to explore the rest of Scotland or enjoy a day trip from. Nearby towns to Edinburgh that are worth a visit to include the seaside towns of South Queensferry and North Berwick.

    Edinburgh has also had its fair share of notable people being born or having lived there and it is fair to say a lot of notable literary talent. These include Sir Walter Scott, Robert Louis Stevenson, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and J.K. Rowling, the creator of the Harry Potter novels. Visit the locations that inspired the Harry Potter novels and films. You can also visit the filming locations of TV series,  Outlander.
