Gran Canaria is an island always bathed in the sun but never seems to get too hot. Its coldest winter months’ average temperature is around 15ºC and the average high during the warmest month are around 28ºC and the sea temperatures also maintain a warm temperature the year round with coldest month averages of 19ºC to the warmest month averages of 23ºC making the temperature pleasant and enjoyable the whole year round.
Gran-Canaria however does offer a lot more than just sun and sandy beaches and is a great destination for the single traveller through to families.
Whether you are an avid golfer wanting to take advantage of one of the eight well maintained golf courses, perhaps it is scuba diving that appeals and you are an experienced scuba diver or someone wanting to dip their toe for the first time with over 230Km’s of coastline it is the perfect place. Maybe it’s one of the modern Spa’s you want to visit for wellness of the body and mind with locally grown Aloe-Vera a key element, or maybe something more active such as mountain biking, wind surfing or climbing.
Gran Canaria is full of culture (over 110 different ethnic groups call this island home) having been a melting pot of European and African culture for centuries and was often the last port of call before the long ocean voyage across the Atlantic. The architecture in the old towns reflect this throughout.
If it’s a more relaxed holiday then make use of the countless sandy beaches dotted all around the Island, some are well populated with amenities and others are patches of sand where you may not see another person the whole day. Then head back to civilisation of the bustling towns and enjoy the local cuisine.
