Jersey is part of the Channel Islands and situated in the English Channel not far from the French main land and is a Crown dependency but not a part of the UK.
Jersey has mild temperature the whole year with average lows during the coldest winter months of around 4ºC and highs during the warmest summer months of around 21ºC but the temperature has been known to reach the mid 30’sºC during the summer.
La Hougue Bie one of the best Neolithic tombs in Europe and is dated from around 3500BC. It is depicted on the Jersey £1 note. The tomb was designed that during the Spring and Autumn equinox the sun shines through the main passageway and reaches the back wall. Later in its life around the 12th and 16th century two medieval chapels where built on its summit.
Jersey Zoo better often known by its correct name of The Durrell Wildlife park after it was established by author and conservationist Gerald Durrell in 1959 is one of the most popular attractions in Jersey and houses over 190 different species of animals.
Jersey has 12 major beaches with over 50 miles of coastline and most of these beaches have very good amenities sited or nearby, but if you prefer something a little more private, then there are numerous other bays and coves to discover.
St Helier is the main shopping area of the island and was named after a Hermit who used to live on nearby Hermitage rocks until he was brutally slain by pirates around 550AD. A must visit at St Helier is Royal square the site of the battle of Jersey in 1781 and in the centre of the square is a statue to George 2nd.
