Exeter Airport offers flights to Paphos, a coastal city in the south-west of Cyprus, from May through to November flying out every Sunday.
Paphos is wonderful gem set on the beautiful Island of Cyprus, situated in the Southwest corner of Cyprus it enjoys mild winters with the average temperature during the coldest month being around 12ºC to the summer average highs of 26ºC. The sea temperature around Paphos during the coldest month averages around 15ºC and gets to the highs of around 25ºC during the summer months.
Paphos, which was selected as the European capital of culture, is said to be the birthplace of the Greek goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite. This influence can be seen throughout the old town and even in today’s more modern culture and is something residents are proud off.
Standing at the harbour entrance is Paphos castle which has a very dramatic history and has been rebuilt many times. It was first built in the 12ths century but destroyed in 1222 by a large earthquake. It was then rebuilt in the 13th century and lasted longer this time before it was dismantled in 1570 by the Venetians before the Ottomans restored it yet again.
Paphos has a thriving and vibrant fishing industry and this can be witnessed by taking a walk to the harbour where boat trips can be hired and even a turtle watching cruise with a boat adapted with underwater viewing.
During the evening the harbour area becomes the main destination of locals and tourists alike and the many restaurants that open have the fresh caught fish on the menu as well as more traditional dishes and local wines and some strong local liquors.
