New directors join board of Devon promotion organisation

Visit Devon, the destination management organisation responsible for promoting Devon to the world has appointed three new Directors to its board, adding to the impressive group of representatives from the business and tourism sectors in Devon. Duncan Currall, Regional Director at the South West Media Group, Jamie Christon, Managing Director at Exeter International Airport and Stephen Page, Director at Colliers Robert Barry join the board of directors as the destination management organisation approaches its 1st anniversary in April 2009.

Bringing media expertise to the table, Duncan Currall has held the position of Regional Director at the South West Media Group Ltd since 2001. The organisation publishes a number of titles and associated web sites across the region including the Western Morning News, The Herald in Plymouth, the Express & Echo in Exeter, the Herald Express in Torquay and the North Devon Journal. Duncan has over 30 years experience in the regional newspaper industry.

Joining Duncan is Jamie Christon, Managing Director of Exeter International Airport. Jamie relocated to Devon in 2007 to join the airport as Commercial Director and then Deputy Managing Director having worked for Manchester Airports Group for three years.

The final addition to the board is Stephen Page who heads up the Plymouth office as a Director of Colliers Robert Barry, the property agent and valuer for the hotel and licensed property market. Stephen joined the company in 1997 and has always been involved in the tourism industry having been brought up in a hotel.

Now 15 strong the strategic board comprises representatives of key areas of tourism in Devon and each brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table. I look forward to working with the board and executive team to deliver our aim of attracting more visitors to the county and increasing the amount of tourism spend.”

These new additions to the board follow the successful appointment in September 2008 of Clive Jacobs as Chairman of the board of directors, which includes representatives from the county’s six Area Tourism Partnerships – Dartmoor ATTP and West Devon, English Riviera Tourist Board, Exeter & Essential Devon ATP, North Devon+, South Devon Partnership, VisitPlymouth –together with the three county-wide groups – Devon County Council, Devon Association of Tourist Attractions (DATA), Devon Farms – and Visit Devon’s CEO Nicola Poultney.
