World Duty Free comes to Exeter

Over £200,000 spent on the departure lounge new store

Over £200,000 has been spent on a four week programme of improvements which have transformed the duty free store in the departure lounge at Exeter Airport in preparation for the summer season.

WDF, the owners of Alpha Airport Shopping and World Duty Free, have modernised the air-side store by increasing its size and adding a larger range of products which include fragrances and cosmetics.

The completion of the project brings the total investment of the airport’s retail partners to nearly £500,000 since the beginning of the year.  This will enable the airport to ensure it goes into the busy summer season with brand new catering and retail outlets.

Jamie Christon, Managing Director said:  “The completion of the work on World Duty Free gives our passengers a new shopping experience alongside the recently opened  WH Smith store and complements the development of the catering areas. There are very few airports in the UK where retail partners are currently investing these sums of money. It shows that Exeter is regarded as an airport with strong growth opportunities and a very bright future. The new stores are set in a backdrop of a declining high street retail sector but our new units are already performing their socks off and our customers think they are great addition to the airport departure lounge.”

Mark Riches CEO WDF said:  “We are delighted to be supporting Exeter’s transformation of its retail space.  This is the first refurbishment under the new entity of WDF (Alpha Airport Shopping and World Duty Free). We have enjoyed an excellent partnership with Exeter and look forward to building our joint business together.”
